Lake Trout

Why do volunteers go to Ox Narrows in freezing rain or pelting snow to count spawning lake trout for about 4 weeks every fall? Because the lake trout is a sensitive species that is adapted to a narrow range of environmental conditions. It is an excellent indicator of the health of fragile aquatic ecosystems – the canary in the gold mine. So even if you don’t fish you should be concerned about the health of Lake Trout in Kushog Lake.

Watch our Kushog Lake 'trout trackers' Joyce Gibson and Mary Muir as they count Lake Trout spawning at Ox Narrows.
