Why do volunteers go to Ox Narrows in freezing rain or pelting snow to count spawning lake trout for about 4 weeks every fall? Because the lake trout is a sensitive species that is adapted to a narrow range of environmental conditions. It is an excellent indicator of the health of fragile aquatic ecosystems – the canary in the gold mine. So even if you don’t fish you should be concerned about the health of Lake Trout in Kushog Lake.
